The mechanical performance of wood-based panels directly determines the durability and safety of furniture. Among various test indices, internal bond reflects the internal cohesion quality of the board itself, while screw holding capability measures the board’s ability to fasten hardware components– together, they form the core indicators for evaluating structural stability and assembly reliability of the panel.

Internal Bond: The Core Indicator of Internal “Adhesion Strength”

1.What is internal bond?

Internal bond refers to the maximum stress a panel can withstand when a tensile force is applied perpendicular to its surface, causing failure at the interface between wood flakes and adhesive, expressed in MPa.

It reflects how firmly the wood flakes are bonded together and to the adhesive. The higher the internal bond, the less likely the panel is to suffer from delamination, blistering, or internal looseness. It is a fundamental criterion for evaluating the basic quality of wood-based panels.

2.YAKCO’s performance:

GB/T 15102-2017 requires internal bond of ≥0.35 MPa for Melamine Faced Board. The tested sample of YAKCO achieved 0.36 MPa, meeting and slightly exceeding the standard limit.

This indicates that YAKCO boards maintain good internal bond stability under normal service conditions, are less prone to delamination or internal defects, and provide a reliable foundation for subsequent processing (e.g., cutting, drilling).

Screw Holding Capability (Face): The “Grip Strength” for Hardware Connections

1.What is screw holding capability?

Screw holding capability refers to the force required to pull a screw out of the panel, expressed in Newtons (N). It directly reflects the panel’s ability to fasten and retain screws.

Specifically, screw holding capability (face) corresponds to the pull-out resistance when a screw is inserted perpendicularly into the board surface.

This index is critical for hinge installation, handle fixing, and connector assembly in furniture – the higher the screw holding capability, the less likely screws will loosen or be pulled out, and the more stable the overall furniture structure.

2.YAKCO’s performance:

GB/T 15102-2017 requires screw holding capability (face) of ≥900 N. The tested sample of YAKCO reached 1110 N, exceeding the national standard limit by 23.3%.

This means that when installing hardware (e.g., cabinet door hinges, drawer slides, handles), YAKCO decorative boards provide stronger grip, significantly reducing the risk of screw loosening during long-term use, thereby enhancing furniture durability and safety.

Good Performance Starts Where You Can’t See

The key to a decorative board’s durability often lies hidden within its internal structure. YAKCO achieves outstanding internal bond and screw holding capability (face) through meticulous control of the Melamine Board Substrate process – from optimizing the particle size distribution, to precisely setting the adhesive spread rate, to dynamically matching hot-pressing temperature and time.

This repeated refinement of fundamental processes ensures that the board will not delaminate and hardware will not loosen over extended use.

When the structure is reliable enough, design can be freely expressed. Based on stable mechanical properties, YAKCO is simultaneously advancing innovation in surface finishes: Rock Design Melamine Board, 3D Embossed Wood Panel, and Leather Design Melamine Board series will soon be launched, allowing high-performance boards to also serve as carriers of spatial aesthetics.

YAKCO specializes in the R&D and manufacturing of high-quality Melamine Faced Board. With stable mechanical properties and strong surface durability as its core advantages, YAKCO serves the furniture manufacturing, interior decoration, and commercial space sectors.
