Home / News / Industry News / Art Deco Is Not Just “Retro Glamour”: YAKCO Uses Test Data to Prove That Fine Patterns Can Also “Last Like New”

Geometric symmetry, metallic lines, black‑white contrast– the Art Deco style has recently returned to the top choice for high‑end hotels and luxury homes.
But many designers, when selecting such patterns, have a concern: Can those delicate gold lines and sharp geometric edges withstand daily friction, hot cup burns, and coffee spills?

YAKCO Art Deco Melamine Board fixes classic Art Deco texture onto the board surface through high‑definition printing and melamine impregnation technology.

At the same time, a set of surface durability data from a national accredited test report answers the above concerns.

Details: yakco technology

Four sets of data safeguard the “delicacy” of Art Deco:

1.Resistance to surface scratching ≥1.5 N – Gold lines remain unbroken, diamond grids stay unmarred

Art Deco often uses slender vertical lines, fan‑shaped rays, and stepped geometric borders. Once these fine patterns are scratched by hard objects, the damage becomes especially conspicuous.

The national standard requires resistance to surface scratching ≥1.5 N with no more than 90% continuous scratch.

YAKCO tested 1.5 N – Pass.

Keys, belt buckles, or the edges of metal ornaments sliding across the board surface leave only extremely slight and discontinuous marks, and will not cut or blur the fine lines.

2.Resistance to surface staining Grade 4 – Coffee and red wine do not penetrate the metallic color blocks

Art Deco often adopts high‑contrast color schemes such as black‑gold, black‑white, and blue‑silver. If liquid stains penetrate the dark areas, the light‑colored metallic lines will turn yellow and dull.

YAKCO tested resistance to surface staining at Grade 4 (national standard ≥ Grade 4).

Soy sauce, red wine, and coffee spills can be wiped clean with a damp cloth without staining or leaving rings.

The gold and silver printed areas are equally dense and low in porosity.

3.
Resistance to dry heat Grade 5 (highest) – Hot coffee cups leave no “white rings”

Many artistic decorative surfaces are heat‑sensitive – a hot cup bottom placed on them leaves a white misty ring within seconds that cannot be wiped away.

YAKCO achieved Grade 5 in resistance to dry heat, far exceeding the national standard requirement of Grade 4.

Even brief contact with the bottom of a freshly boiled kettle will not damage the gloss or colour of the Art Deco pattern.

For hotel guest room tabletops and coffee shop counters, this performance is especially critical.

4.
Wear resistance – no show‑through after 350 rotations, wear value only 57 mg/100r – High‑frequency wiping does not “wear down” the pattern

Art Deco feature walls and cabinet doors are frequently wiped with cleaning cloths. If wear resistance is poor, the sharpness of the metallic lines will be dulled and the colours will fade after a few years.

YAKCO tested no show‑through after 350 rotations, with a wear value of 57 mg/100r (national standard ≤80 mg/100r).

This means that cleaning and wiping will not damage the thickness of the decorative layer, and the pattern remains sharp and clear over the long term.

Why does Art Deco need a good substrate even more?

Fine patterns are extremely sensitive to substrate flatness and density uniformity. Once the substrate locally warps or has uneven density, the printing will deviate, and the pressing will produce uneven depths.

YAKCO Melamine Board Substrate provides:

1.Density 0.72 g/cm³, uniformly distributed, ensuring that large‑area Art Deco patterns are not distorted.

2.Internal bond 0.36 MPa, the substrate is compact, and the pattern does not tear due to stress during pressing.

3.Moisture content 5.3%, low shrinkage and swelling, avoiding later micro‑cracks in the pattern caused by substrate deformation.

Typical applications:

Bringing Art Deco from “rendering on paper” to “real high‑intensity spaces”

1.Hotel elevator lobby feature wall with radial golden sunburst texture:

Yakco:Resistance to scratching and staining – luggage leans and wipes do not damage it

2.High‑end club bar counter with black‑gold geometric splicing:

Yakco:Resistance to dry heat Grade 5 – hot drinking glasses can be placed directly without marks

3.Luxury home entryway cabinet doors with black‑white diamond grids:

Yakco: Excellent wear resistance – frequent opening and closing do not scratch or dull the pattern

4.Boutique store display stand with vertical striped metallic feel:

Yakco: Resistance to surface staining Grade 4 – easy to clean after makeup trials or drink spills

Uncompromised art, without doubled maintenance efforts:

The value proposition of YAKCO Art Deco Melamine Board is very straightforward: You focus on designing complex retro luxury; we make durability the default configuration.

No need for protective film, no need for special cleaners, no need to worry about guests “damaging” the wall – the numbers on the test report are the most tangible after‑sales guarantee.

YAKCO specializes in the R&D and manufacturing of melamine decorative boards, offering parallel series of Art Deco, rock design, 3D wood texture, and leather design.

With an area of 50 acres and has a modern standard factory building of over 30000 square meters, YAKCO provides designers with a “high aesthetics + high durability” implementation solution.
