In modern furniture and interior design, a high-quality melamine board is not defined by its decorative surface alone. Behind every realistic wood grain, sophisticated stone effect, or tactile embossed texture, the substrate plays a critical role in determining the board’s overall performance.

With this in mind, YAKCO melamine board substrate is developed with a focus on structural stability, mechanical strength, dimensional control, and long-term surface performance.

According to Test Report No. 25-0494, a YAKCO 18 mm surface-decorated particle board with thermosetting resin-impregnated paper was tested for a range of mechanical, physical, and surface-performance properties. The testing covered bending strength, modulus of elasticity, internal bond, thickness swelling, moisture content, density, screw holding capability, and multiple surface resistance properties.

A Substrate Designed for Structural Stability

The substrate is the foundation of a melamine board. Its stability directly affects machining, furniture assembly, screw fixing, and the ability of the finished board to maintain its shape during everyday use. As Wholesale Melamine Board Substrate Manufacturers, Melamine Board Substrate Factory, YAKCO focuses on providing substrates with consistent strength and dimensional stability for melamine board production.

In the reported testing, the 18 mm YAKCO substrate achieved a bending strength of 29.8 MPa, a modulus of elasticity of 4,240, and an internal bond strength of 0.36 MPa, with all three items recorded as passing the specified requirements. The board also showed 1.0% thickness swelling after 2 hours, indicating controlled dimensional change under the tested conditions.

These properties provide an important foundation for furniture components and interior applications where board strength and dimensional stability are essential.

Reliable Moisture and Screw-Holding Performance

For furniture manufacturing, substrate performance is closely connected with practical processing and installation requirements.

The tested YAKCO board recorded a moisture content of 5.3% and a density of 0.72 g/cm³. Screw holding capability was also evaluated, with tested values of 1,110 N on the face and 860 N on the edge, both recorded as passing.

For manufacturers, these characteristics are particularly relevant to cabinet construction, furniture assembly, hardware installation, and other applications where reliable fastening and stable board performance are required.

Surface Performance Complements the Substrate

A melamine board may attract attention because of its decorative design, but everyday performance ultimately depends on the interaction between the surface and the substrate underneath.

The YAKCO test report evaluated resistance to high-low temperature cycles, scratching, surface wearing, cigarette burns, dry heat, staining, cracking, and vapor. The tested surface showed no fissures, blisters, color changes, or wrinkles after the high-low temperature cycle test. It also met the specified scratching requirement at 1.50 N.

In the surface-wear test, the plain-color surface showed no show-through after 350 rotations, while the recorded wear value was 57 mg/100 r, within the specified requirement of no more than 80 mg/100 r.

The board also achieved passing results in resistance to cigarette burns, dry heat, surface staining, cracking, and vapor. The recorded grades were 4 for cigarette burns, 5 for dry heat, 4 for surface staining, 5 for cracking, and 5 for vapor.

Supporting More Advanced Surface Design

For today’s furniture and interior market, substrate quality is becoming increasingly important as decorative surfaces evolve.

Modern melamine boards are no longer limited to flat printed finishes. Deep embossing, synchronized textures, wood-inspired surfaces, stone effects, leather-inspired finishes, and other three-dimensional decorative solutions all place greater demands on the stability of the underlying board.

A reliable YAKCO melamine board substrate provides the foundation for combining visual design with tactile performance. When the substrate offers consistent mechanical and dimensional properties, the decorative surface can be developed with greater confidence for demanding furniture and interior applications.

From the core structure to the final decorative finish, YAKCO approaches melamine board performance as a complete system rather than focusing on appearance alone.

Building Better Surfaces from the Core

The development of premium decorative boards starts long before the embossing process or decorative paper application. It begins with the substrate.

By paying attention to mechanical strength, dimensional stability, moisture control, screw holding capability, and surface durability, YAKCO aims to create melamine boards that deliver both design value and practical performance.

For furniture manufacturers, designers, and interior material buyers, the substrate may not always be the most visible part of a board—but it remains one of the most important.
