YAKCO leather design melamine board brings a new interpretation of leather-inspired surfaces to contemporary furniture and interior design, combining distinctive leather textures with deep embossed detailing and the practical characteristics of melamine decorative boards.

Leather has always had a strong presence in premium interiors. Its appeal comes not only from its appearance, but also from the irregularity of its grain, the subtle changes in light across its surface, and the tactile experience it creates.

YAKCO translates these characteristics into a board surface designed for modern furniture and interior applications.

A Surface Designed Around Texture

The difference between an ordinary decorative pattern and a convincing material effect often lies in the depth of the surface.

With YAKCO leather design melamine board, leather-inspired patterns such as litchi grain and cowhide grain are developed with a stronger three-dimensional structure. Deep embossing gives the surface more defined highs and lows, allowing the texture to remain visible from different angles while creating a noticeable tactile response.

Instead of simply printing a leather image onto a flat surface, YAKCO focuses on reproducing the visual rhythm and physical character associated with real leather.

This approach creates a surface that is designed to be seen, touched, and experienced.

Deep Embossing Creates a Stronger Material Expression

Texture is becoming an increasingly important element in furniture design. As contemporary interiors move toward more tactile materials, flat decorative surfaces are often no longer enough to create a convincing material experience.

YAKCO’s deep embossing process gives leather-inspired patterns greater definition and helps establish a stronger relationship between decoration and surface structure.

The changing interaction between light and shadow emphasizes the grain, while the embossed texture adds another dimension to cabinet doors, furniture fronts, wall applications, and other interior surfaces.

The result is a richer interpretation of leather aesthetics—more structured, more architectural, and more adaptable to modern furniture production.

Performance Remains Part of the Design

A decorative surface also needs to perform in practical applications.

According to Test Report No. 25-0494, an 18 mm surface-decorated particleboard sample submitted by YAKCO MATERIALS (JIANGSU) CO., LTD. was tested according to GB/T 15102-2017. The test covered mechanical properties as well as a range of surface-performance characteristics.

The tested sample recorded a bending strength of 29.8 MPa, a modulus of elasticity in bending of 4240, an internal bond of 0.36 MPa, and a 2-hour thickness swelling value of 1.0%. The reported density was 0.72 g/cm³, while screw holding capability reached 1110 N on the face and 860 N on the edge.

The sample also passed surface tests covering temperature cycling, scratching, and abrasion. Its reported scratch resistance was 1.50 N, while the abrasion test showed no surface show-through after 350 rotations, with a wear value of 57 mg/100r.

Additional tests for cigarette-burn resistance, dry-heat resistance, stain resistance, cracking resistance, and vapor resistance also received Pass results. The tested sample achieved Grade 5 for resistance to dry heat, cracking, and vapor.

Expanding the Possibilities of Leather-Inspired Design

The appeal of leather is no longer limited to upholstered furniture.

Today, leather-inspired surfaces can be used to introduce warmth and sophistication to cabinet doors, furniture systems, wall surfaces, hospitality interiors, retail environments, and high-end residential spaces.

By translating leather grain into an embossed decorative board format, YAKCO leather design melamine board offers designers a different way to work with this familiar material language—without limiting the design concept to traditional leather upholstery.

From subtle fine grain to more distinctive leather patterns, the surface can become part of the overall architectural language of a space.

From Visual Texture to Tactile Experience

Modern surface design is moving beyond the question of how closely a material can imitate another material.

The next step is to recreate the experience of the material.

With its leather-inspired patterns, deep embossed texture, and tested board performance, YAKCO leather design melamine board is developed around this idea: a decorative surface should not only look convincing, but also create a stronger physical connection with the user.

For YAKCO, leather is not simply a pattern.

It is a texture, a touch, and a new surface language for contemporary furniture and interiors.
