Medical institutions, nursing homes, rehabilitation centres, physical examination centres and other wellness spaces have a specific set of selection criteria for wall and cabinet decorative materials: they must be easy to clean, resistant to disinfectant wiping, impervious to stains, and have no gaps where bacteria can hide.

Tech: yakco technology

Traditional choices are often fireproof boards, medical‑grade PVC or antibacterial panels, but such materials tend to look “cold” and lack spatial warmth.

YAKCO Rock Design Melamine Board uses four data points from its test report – resistance to surface staining Grade 4, resistance to dry heat Grade 5, surface wear value 57 mg/100r, and resistance to surface scratching 1.5N– to prove that rock texture boards are equally suitable for wellness spaces with high cleaning frequency and strict hygiene requirements, while adding a warm, stone‑like texture to the environment.

1.
Resistance to surface staining Grade 4: Iodine, alcohol, medical fluids do not penetrate or stain

Test item: Resistance to surface staining

National standard requirement: ≥ Grade 4

YAKCO: Grade 4 – Pass

In wellness spaces, contaminants such as iodine, alcohol, 84 disinfectant, medical fluids, blood stains, and urine may occasionally come into contact with walls or cabinet surfaces.

Grade 4 means that after these contaminants are spilled, they can be removed by wiping with a damp cloth (or a cloth containing disinfectant)– no staining, no residue, no corrosion of the decorative layer.

Compared to natural stone: limestone, marble and others have micro‑porous structures; iodine and alcohol penetrate and form permanent yellow or white spots.

Compared to ordinary decorative panels: many products have only Grade 3 stain resistance, and their surfaces become white and lose gloss after repeated disinfection wiping.

The dense melamine resin layer of YAKCO rock grain board provides chemical resistance for medical‑grade cleaning.

2.
Resistance to dry heat Grade 5: No blistering near high‑temperature disinfection equipment

Test item: Resistance to dry heat

National standard requirement: ≥ Grade 4

YAKCO: Grade 5 (highest grade)

In wellness spaces, walls or countertops near equipment such as kettles, hot towel cabinets, disinfection cabinets and heated water dispensers often experience brief high‑temperature contact.

Grade 5 means that after brief contact with a heat source at approximately 100°C, the surface shows no white heat rings, no uneven gloss, and no blistering or delamination.

For public pantries in nursing homes, physiotherapy tables in rehabilitation centres, and dispensing countertops in hospitals, this performance ensures that the panels do not become “disfigured” after long‑term use near heat sources.

3.
Surface wear value 57 mg/100r: Withstands daily wiping with chlorine‑containing disinfectant

Test item: Resistance to surface wearing (benchmarked against plain colour board)

National standard requirement: No show‑through after 350 rotations, wear value ≤80 mg/100r

YAKCO: No show‑through after 350 rotations, wear value only 57 mg/100r (29% better than the standard limit)

Cleaning frequency in wellness spaces is much higher than in ordinary homes. Corridor wall cladding, nurse station countertops, bedside cabinets and other areas are wiped at least once or twice a day with a damp cloth containing chlorine‑based disinfectant – sometimes even more.

A wear value of 57 mg/100r means that even with long‑term high‑frequency wiping, the loss of decorative layer thickness is minimal, and the rock texture and colour will not become “worn white” or “faded” due to cleaning.

This is on the same level as the wear resistance of medical‑grade fireproof boards.

4.
Resistance to surface scratching 1.5N: Wheelchairs, canes, stretchers do not cause “disfigurement”

Test item: Resistance to surface scratching

National standard requirement: ≥1.5N load, the surface without more than 90% continuous scratch

YAKCO: 1.5N – Pass

In wellness spaces, hard objects such as wheelchair metal frames, cane tips, stretcher edges, and medical instrument casters inevitably come into contact with walls or cabinets.

A tolerance of 1.5N means that daily contact will not leave long, deep continuous scratches – only extremely slight and discontinuous marks may appear, which are invisible from a distance.

Compared to low‑density boards or soft decorative surfaces, YAKCO rock texture board maintains a longer “youthful state” in high‑frequency hard‑object contact environments.

5.
Substrate support: The “hygienic” foundation beneath the rock texture

The stability of the above properties depends on the density uniformity and low water absorption of the substrate. YAKCO Melamine Board Substrate provides:

1.Density 0.72 g/cm³: uniformly distributed, ensuring consistent surface hardness and preventing local accelerated wear due to looseness.

2.Internal bond 0.36 MPa: the substrate is compact; wiping with chlorine‑containing disinfectant does not cause interfacial delamination due to moisture penetration.

3.Moisture content 5.3%: low shrinkage and swelling, preventing moisture from entering through board edges during cleaning, which would otherwise cause edge swelling or edge banding failure.

Typical application scenarios

1.Hospital ward wall cladding-Daily chlorine‑based disinfectant wiping, anti‑stain, anti‑bacterial:

Yakco: Resistance to surface staining Grade 4 + wear value 57 mg/100r

2.Nursing home public corridor-Wheelchair scratches, high‑frequency cleaning:

Yakco: Resistance to surface scratching 1.5N + excellent wear resistance

3.Rehabilitation centre physiotherapy tabletop-Contact with high‑temperature disinfection equipment, medical fluid spills:

Yakco:Resistance to dry heat Grade 5 + resistance to surface staining Grade 4

4.Physical examination centre nurse station-Frequent use of alcohol and iodine:

Yakco: Resistance to surface staining Grade 4 – wipes clean without residue

5.Pharmacy dispensing counter-Repeated cleaning of powder residues, medical fluids, detergents:

Yakco: Resistance to surface staining Grade 4 + excellent wear resistance

Conclusion: The “premium feel” of wellness spaces does not have to sacrifice hygiene and durability

The value of YAKCO Rock Design Melamine Board lies in breaking the stereotype that “medical‑grade materials = cold and monotonous”. Designers can use the natural texture of rock texture in wellness spaces to create a warm, friendly atmosphere, without sacrificing the functional baseline of easy cleaning, disinfectant resistance, and scratch resistance.

When managers of wellness institutions consider wall materials, YAKCO provides an answer that balances aesthetics and hygiene with the data of resistance to surface staining Grade 4, resistance to dry heat Grade 5, wear value 57 mg/100r, and resistance to surface scratching 1.5N.

YAKCO specialises in the R&D and manufacturing of melamine decorative boards, offering parallel series of rock design, 3D embossed wood texture, leather design, and Art Deco.

It provides “hygienic‑grade, high‑aesthetic” decorative solutions for medical, elderly care, and wellness spaces.
