Leather texture is often regarded as a symbol of luxury and warmth.

However, in homes with pets and young children, homeowners often have concerns about leather grain decorative boards: Will cat claws leave scratches? Will spilled milk or paint pens penetrate into the texture grooves? Will frequent cleaning cause the surface to peel or fade?

Tech:yakco technology

YAKCO Leather Design Melamine Board addresses these real pain points with three core data points from a national accredited test report– resistance to surface scratching, resistance to surface staining, and resistance to surface wearing.

The following sections break down how leather texture board finds a balance between “high aesthetics” and “durability”.
1.Resistance to surface scratching ≥1.5 N: Cat claws, zippers, toy edges no longer leave “scars”

Test item: Resistance to surface scratching

National standard requirement: ≥1.5 N load, the surface without more than 90% continuous scratch

YAKCO : 1.5 N – Pass

A load of 1.5 N is approximately equivalent to 150 grams of force.

Translated into daily scenarios: a cat gently pawing, the plastic edge of a child’s toy scraping across, a backpack zipper rubbing against a cabinet door– the pressure generated by these common actions can be withstood by the surface of YAKCO leather grain board without producing obvious continuous scratches.

For pet-owning families, this means that areas such as sofa feature walls and bedroom wardrobe doors can confidently use leather grain finishes without the need for additional protective panels or sacrificing aesthetics.

For children’s rooms, walls and cabinet doors can also resist daily “minor damages”, leaving the leather texture intact.

2.
Resistance to surface staining Grade 4: Milk, juice, paint pens wipe clean in one go

Test item: Resistance to surface staining

National standard requirement: ≥ Grade 4

YAKCO : Grade 4 – Pass

The grooves and gaps of leather texture are a natural structure and have always been a concern for consumers as “dirt traps”.

YAKCO’s Grade 4 means that common household contaminants such as coffee, cola, soy sauce, juice, and water‑based paint pens, when spilled, can be wiped clean with a damp cloth without staining or residue.

In practical applications, the wall next to a child’s dining chair, cabinets around a pet’s food bowl, or marker pen marks on a home office desk– none of these are cleaning problems anymore.

The dense resin overlay of the leather grain board extends into the textured grooves, preventing liquid penetration, making daily maintenance as convenient as with smooth panels.

3.Resistance to surface wearing: No show‑through after 350 rotations, wear value only 57 mg/100r – withstands daily wiping

Test item: Resistance to surface wearing (benchmarked against plain colour board)

National standard requirement: No show‑through after 350 rotations, wear value ≤80 mg/100r

YAKCO: No show‑through after 350 rotations, wear value only 57 mg/100r (29% better than the standard limit)

In household cleaning, leather texture surfaces are frequently wiped with a damp cloth, sponge, or even a soft brush.

The lower the wear value, the less likely the surface decorative layer is to become thin or “wear white”.

57 mg/100r means that even with daily wiping, after several years the goat texture and woven patterns of the leather texture will still maintain a clear sense of concavo-convex and original colour, without local “bald spots” or uneven gloss.

For families with pets, wall cladding near the floor and cabinets in pet activity areas endure even higher wiping frequencies.

YAKCO’s low wear value provides substantial durability assurance for long‑term use.

4.
Substrate support: The invisible “chassis” determines the durability of the surface

The scratch resistance, stain resistance, and wear resistance of leather texture board are inseparable from the stable support of the substrate.

Three key data points of YAKCO Melamine Board Substrate provide the underlying guarantee:

1.Density 0.72 g/cm³ (national standard 0.60–0.90): Uniformly distributed, ensuring that the leather texture is clear and undistorted during pressing, with even surface hardness.

2.Internal bond 0.36 MPa (national standard ≥0.35 MPa): The substrate is compact and non‑delaminating, avoiding surface “peeling” caused by internal loosening of the substrate over long‑term use.

3.Moisture content 5.3% (national standard 3.0%–13.0%): In the low‑shrinkage‑swelling range, the substrate dimensions are stable, and the decorative surface will not develop micro‑cracks due to humidity changes.

Typical application scenarios: Making leather grain board a worry‑free choice for homes with children and pets

1.Wall near cat scratching post-Continuous scratches from cat claws

Yakco: Resistance to surface scratching 1.5 N

2.Children’s study desk and cabinet doors-Paint pens, juice spills

Yakco: Wipes clean with a damp cloth

3.Cabinets around pet food bowl-Water stains, food residue, repeated wiping

Yakco: Long‑term non‑wearing

4.Living room feature wall (with pets)-Pet scratching, hair adhesion

Yakco: Easy to clean, does not attract hair

Conclusion: The gentleness of leather texture does not have to come at the cost of constant caution

YAKCO Leather Design Melamine Board uses a solid set of test data to prove that leather texture decorative surfaces can have both “warm touch” and “long‑lasting durability”.

Pet‑owning families do not have to give up leather aesthetics to prevent scratching, and child‑friendly spaces do not have to choose cold industrial panels for easy cleaning.

When designers recommend leather grain boards to families with children and pets, they can confidently say: The scratch resistance, stain resistance, and wear resistance data have already rehearsed the usage scenarios for the next five to ten years on behalf of the homeowners.

YAKCO specialises in the R&D and manufacturing of melamine decorative  boards, offering parallel series of leather design, rock design, wood texture, and Art Deco.

With a 50‑mu factory area and more than 30 pressing lines, YAKCO provides a “gentle yet hardcore” decorative solution for residential spaces.
